The Savvy Travelers' Ultimate Tool
Most people have travelled during their lifetimes. Maybe the trip was for business, maybe pleasure. Perhaps travel involved short
road trips or a once-in-a-lifetime vacation to an exotic destination. What separates the "normal" traveler from the savvy traveler is
experience and education.
Taking a trip should be enjoyable, but for some, travel is not very fun and can be quite stressful. This is generally because of a lack
of preparation.
Maps are Key to a Great Road Trip
Obviously, there are some essential "first steps" that anyone will take when planning a trip. This includes arranging for
transportation, reserving a hotel room or other accommodation, and the like. But the savvy traveler adds something else to his trip:
He gathers and studies maps beforehand.
Maps are an essential part of any trip, whether it's a weekend vacation or a trip around the world.
It is pretty easy to find maps. A person planning a trip can buy road maps at most stores or gas stations. They can go to their local travel
agency and they can also contact the travel and tourism office at their destination through the Internet. Hotel or car rental
agencies will also provide maps to their customers.
What sets the savvy traveler apart from the weekend warrior is that he will study the maps he has gathered instead of packing them away
for later. If he plans on driving, he will mark his route and circle any places along the way that look like they will be
interesting or useful. These include rest stops, scenic sites, attractions or interesting looking towns. A map will do a person no
good if it is packed at the bottom of a suitcase or left at a hotel. You can spot a seasoned travel because his map next to him on the
front seat!
Some people that enjoy the thrill of spontaneity and do not care for planning. This can be a lot of fun for weekend trips but is not such
a good idea for out of state or foreign destinations. Savvy travelers know it is best to be prepared in order to enjoy the trip with
little stress and hassle.
