A Fabulous Cup of Joe Begins With Beans and A Burr Coffee Grinder

I'm one of those people who walks into walls and can't think straight until I've had my morning cup of coffee. Obviously, I brew my coffee at home instead of trying to drive somewhere for that first gratifying swig.  I am picky about my coffee, however.  The instant varieties upset my stomach and I don't think they taste very good.  The regular ground coffee from the grocery store is okay, but when it really comes down to it, it's the aroma and gourmet taste of the exotic blends that kick starts my day.

To get most flavorful and rich cup of coffee, you need to grind your own beans.  The closer you can grind them to brewing time, the better.  For that reason, I invested in a burr coffee grinder and am glad that I made that decision.

Settings for Grinding Coffee Beans

A burr coffee grinder is different from the bladed type, and in my opinion, is superior for a number of reasons. For one thing, a burr coffee grinder can be adjusted to produce a variety of grinds, from coarse to very fine. This is ideal for people like me because I have greater flexibility in my brewing method. If I want to use a percolator, I leave the setting at coarse. For a drip machine, I change it to a medium grind. Plus, I can easily indulge in a cup of espresso every now and again without having to go to any extra effort. Simply set your burr coffee grinder to the finest setting and brew a great cup of espresso.

Another convenient feature of the burr coffee grinder is that it can grind as little or as much as you need. If I'm just going to have one or two cups of coffee before heading out to work, I usually grind up a couple of tablespoons of coffee beans and I'm set. If I'm going to be up all night working on a project or if I'm having guests over for dinner, then I grind up a lot more coffee beans so that I can brew 12 or more cups.

Burr Coffee Grinders Are Different From Blade Grinders

Perhaps my favorite part about using a burr coffee grinder is because I can enjoy the freshest, most flavorful brew possible. The burr coffee grinder produces less friction when grinding than a blade machine.  As a result, the richness of the beans is preserved.  I can definitely taste the difference in each and every cup.

If you enjoy your coffee, you owe it to yourself to invest in a burr coffee grinder.  These appliances are affordable, and there are several different models on the market.  Soon, you'll be enjoying the unequalled taste -- and aroma -- of gourmet coffee from the comfort of your own home.
