Celebrity Spotlight Blurb:  Eddie Murphy

In less than a ten years, Eddie Murphy has managed to change his image remarkably. From a foul mouthed R-rated funny man, he has transformed himself into a star in kid's movies such as Daddy Day Care or the voice of the Donkey in Shrek. In a way, he has cultivated his playful childlike side in order to become a mature man.

The Eddie Murphy who became famous in the 80's is vastly different than the Eddie Murphy of today. Many of today's kids probably do not realize that he starred in foul-mouthed projects such as Raw  or that he was lead vocal in his own hit single,  "My Girl Likes to Party All the Time."  Kids today think Eddie Murphy is a kid's movie actor.

Not many actors have made such a dramatic shift in image.  Did Eddie Murphy plan to star in kids movies? Or did has this type cast been thrown upon him? I do know the answer, but it will be fun to see what kind of roles he will play in the upcoming years.

Some of his old movies are actually hard to find. Some of my favorite Eddie Murphy classics include The Golden Child and the "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood" skits from Saturday Night Live. His older work is inappropriate for children, but will always be funny for us adults.

Eddie Murphy is such a talented actor that I do not believe he will limit all of his future acting to just the family, g-rated genre. Being a donkey in a cartoon is just one facet of his many talents, and I look forward to seeing other roles beyond the kid stuff.
