Digital Photography - It's More Than The Camera
Are you interested in digital photography, but not sure where to start? What you need to do is to get familiar with cameras, computers, and digital imaging software programs for editing. Digital cameras have many functions that perform various actions. It will take you some time and practice to figure out what each function does and how it affects the quality of your photos.
Checklist Item #1 - The Digital Camera
At one time, digital cameras were very expensive but nowadays digital cameras are priced to meet anyone's budget. The downside is that the less the camera costs, the lower the resolution of images. Features such as LCD monitoring that come with most digital camera models are great. With the LCD monitoring, you can view your shot immediately after you shoot the picture. This will let you know whether you want to keep the photo or try again.
If you want to take quality pictures that can be sold, image resolution is critical. High quality, large pictures require a higher resolution. The cheap, low-resolution cameras will only produce pictures in small sizes.
Digital camera accessories include tripods, lenses, lights, and cases.
Checklist Item #2 - Transfer Tools and Image Editing Software
Most digital cameras have a USB cable which you can plug into your computer so that you can download the images and then edit them with a software program. You will need sufficient Random Access Memory (RAM) and hard drive space on your computer to store, print, edit, or view your pictures. At the very minimum, you should have at least 32 MB of RAM, but you're better off having higher RAM in order to edit your digital photos. With just 32 MB of RAM, your computer will probably freeze when trying to edit images.
Your image-editing programs should provide transfer tools and editing features. Many digital photographers prefer Adobe's image applications. You will also find that your digital camera probably comes with photo editing software that works pretty well.
Checklist Item #3 - Printing Your Digital Photos
Your digital photographs will look best if they are printed on quality paper. Rather than regular "all purpose' paper, get the glossy or semi-glossing image paper. Of course, you will need a color printer. If you are printing digital photos for family or friends, inexpensive deskjet printers will work fine. If you will be printing your photos for business or for sale, consider investing in a top of the line color printer. Color laser printers are becoming more affordable. These printers have a fast output and produce quality images.
Conclusion - Use the Right Digital Photography Equipment to Salvage Your Photos
Digital cameras are designed to take quality photos, but like traditional cameras, other factors such as light will come into play. If, at first glance on your computer screen, your digital photo looks like a dud, you can easily touch up your photo into an image that you can be proud to share, provided you have good editing software and computer equipment. Your editing software will enable you to enlarge, lighten and sharpen your images. You can remove "red eyes" and perform other functions with a click of the button.
