Gift Shopping Tips ... Finding the Right Cameras for Kids
Are cameras for kids on your holiday, birthday or other gifting lists? Think digital!
For the serious photographer, a digital camera may not be the best equipment to rely on. Kids, however, generally are more interested in just taking a bunch of pictures and sharing them with their friends online and could care less about learning the art of photography. For that reason, this is why the youngster on your shopping list will like a digital camera more than a traditional camera. Getting kids cameras is like getting kids and teens anything else that is electronic or technical: he or she will probably understand it more than you!
The big questions when getting cameras, camcorders, or any other electronic gift for children and teens is whether or not they will they use the gift and how much you are willing to spend.
I have always found that you really should know your son or daughter well before getting him or her an expensive present. Will it bring a lot of joy to the kid's life, or will it just sit unused in the closet picking up dust for the next ten years? I think that when buying a camera for kids, the issue isn't so much about how much money I spend, but it's whether or not my kids will use the gift. I find that if I buy my children expensive "toys" that they just toss in the closet or ignore, I am not teaching them appreciation. On the other hand, if one of my kids are passionate about doing something, it is good to support his or her hobbies because he remains enthused and appreciative. Balancing your money and your kids' desires are factors that should be considered when you shop for cameras for kids.

There are a lot of cameras for kids that will work well and that will cost a lot less than more sophisticated "adult cameras." Before buying, know what comes with the camera and what your kids want in the camera. For example, resolution may be very important, but digital zoom may be something your young photographer will never use. Some models of cameras for kids will allow the user to edit the pictures right in camera. If you have a computer, however, you might not need this feature. Research these things and get a feel for what your youngster will do with the camera before buying cameras for kids. You should have no trouble finding what will fit both your budget and your kid's personality.
