For some people, knowing how to write a research paper comes naturally, and for others, it can be a huge headache without the proper guidance. For some people, this headache turns into the very bad habit of buying partially or totally written papers to turn in at school.

The first step in knowing how to write a research paper is knowing how to research. There is no one method that works perfectly for everyone.  The best thing is start with a basic, logical starting point which would be your key phrase or keyword that has to do with your topic.  Research everything you can about that basic phrase by reading books, searching the Internet, reading old newspapers and interviewing people.  Write down everything you think might be relevant. Once you have the basic information, you should be able to figure out what slant you want to go with and what additional research you need to do.

Organization is Essential for a Good Research Paper 

Knowing how to write a research paper is a matter of organization more than anything else. The outline is one of the most important steps to take and helps your entire paper come together. Consider the basic facts and information that you have gathered in the research phrase and outline that information.  You might want to evaluate your research in terms of preparing to debate someone. Start with the basics and build your case from there. Be sure to include the "who, what, when and where" (not necessarily in that order) and make sure that your research paper is grammatically correct.
