College Loans and Financial Aid

When it's time to get your post-secondary education, you will no doubt be thinking about college loans. If you have a scholarship, grab it.  If you can get a grant, get it.  Scholarships and grants will not have to be paid back.  But if you're like most people, you'll need to look at college loans and consider that you will need to repay them once you've graduated and are  out in the "real world."

The Financial Aid Application 

There are a number of sources to look at when it comes to obtaining contemporary college loans. Obviously, the Internet will give you a wealth of information and options about college loans.  The major online resource to visit, however, is FAFSFA.com. This is where the college loans and financial aid process starts. Fill out the FAFSFA application and get your pin number.  It can take approximately an hour to fully complete the FAFSFA application. You should receive your pin number by email or U.S. postal mail in a few days.

The FAFSFA application will request a great deal of information.  For example, you will need to provide data on your parents, where they work and where they went to college. You'll also need to provide your Social Security Number, your parents' Social Security Number, your income, your top college choices, and other information.

Although the FAFSFA application may take some time to complete, once you're done, you won't have to do it again. You may have to update the application each year, but the bulk of the information has already been provided and the update takes a minute.

Whatever you do, don't avoid the FAFSFA process. This is the key to financial aid and college loans. You need to get for all the financial aid you can get. College is not cheap.

As mentioned previously, grants and scholarships do not have to be repaid. These are obviously better than college loans because getting them will help minimize the debt you will be facing after graduation.  There are many higher education grants available.
