Overcome The Clutches Of A Social Phobia Using Self-Hypnosis

by Alan B. Densky, CH

Social phobia is an anxiety disorder in which a person is afraid of being in a social setting. An individual with social phobia experiences incapacitating anxiety that affects their personal and daily life.

People with social phobia are extremely self-conscious and concerned about what others may say or think about them. They are usually afraid of voicing their opinions, out of fear that they might be judged or criticized. People with social anxiety tend to be down on themselves or have negative feelings about themselves. They are frequently worried about being noticed by other people and find socializing to be quite terrifying.

Some people with social anxieties may seem "shy," but in a phobia, this is taken to irrational extremes. For instance, if you struggle with social phobia, you might hesitate to make an important call because you're nervous about talking on the telephone. You dial the number, but you're so anxious that you "lock up" or forget why you called. Although it can happen to everyone sometimes, for a person with social phobia it may happen every time, until they find it impossible to make any calls.

Maybe it is the night before a big meeting at work and you find yourself panicking. You hate the thought of being in front of your supervisor and all your co-workers watching as you present a project or an idea. You can't help but feel extremely self-conscious and embarrassed. Even after the meeting ends, you keep overanalyzing everything you said and did. You worry that you embarrassed yourself in front of your co-workers by stammering or saying the wrong thing.

Or maybe you want to go to parties and make new friends, but you avoid socializing because you're nervous about meeting someone new. You find the crowds daunting and the thought of meeting someone new scares you. You worry about saying the right thing, or that people will not like you. You might stay at home a lot because you're too scared to go out. These are only a few examples of the way social phobias can affect our daily lives.

Social phobias are overblown fears that can stop you from achieving your professional goals or enjoying life. But even those who know their fears are irrational may not be able to handle their fears. People with social anxiety would like to socialize and meet new people, but are too afraid to do so. In spite of their conscious desires and hard work, they cannot shake their phobia because every phobia is seated in the unconscious level of the mind. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) techniques are the most successful phobia treatments because they resolve issues at the unconscious level.

It can be difficult for people with social anxiety to get cured because they can be reluctant to visit a counselor or open up about their condition. This is another reason why hypnotherapy programs are appropriate for them. The programs promote a tranquil and confidence-boosting frame of mind in a privacy, without being overwhelming or intimidating.

The first stage in a proper phobia program is relaxation therapy. Hypnosis therapy is a powerful tool for relieving your stress and tension. When you are anxiety free, hypnotherapy techniques will foster positive ideas in your unconscious and eliminate your social phobia. NLP techniques will relieve your fears by targeting the thought process that causes a phobia.

In traditional hypnosis therapy, distinctively worded post-hypnotic suggestions are utilized to address one unique phobia. Unfortunately, people have a tendency to resist being directly told what to think or do, so traditional hypnosis therapy is not always effective. A phobia requires the use of NLP and Ericksonian Hypnotherapy.

Ericksonian hypnotherapy techniques are more effective than traditional hypnosis therapy because they use suggestions that are not obvious to your conscious mind, instead of direct suggestions. These suggestions are hidden in conversation, in the form of stories and metaphors, to convince your unconscious to follow a different line of reasoning. This is why Ericksonian hypnotherapy is far more sophisticated than traditional hypnotic therapy and far more difficult for the unconscious to resist.

A program that has Ericksonian hypnotic therapy and NLP techniques can treat any phobia, in any person. This is because a variety of techniques are combined to maximize their success rate. People are often in awe of the seemingly miraculous effects they can achieve using hypnosis therapy. Ericksonian hypnotherapy and NLP are ideal tools to help build your confidence and overcome social phobia so you may live your life to the fullest.
